The cooperation between Norway and Austria started in December 2010. Since then SBI GmbH and Ferdinand Stempfer have given shape and form to N2 Applied and Rune Ingels’ vision, equations and calculations. Hollabrunn in Austria and the team in SBI has been the base of our research and development which is all based on Professor Birkeland’s electric arc concept, dating back to the early 1900s.
Tuesday August 18th 2015, the pilot plant arrived at The N2 Applied Test Centre in Svene, Norway. A major milestone was fulfilled. The plasma reactor, absorption unit and control panel integrated in one rack was ready to be installed.
The plant is equipped with features for research, development, benchmarking and testing of every thinkable option for continued improvement of the energy efficiency. In addition, the plant facilitates development and testing of different application interfaces in cooperation with curious customers and potential partners. Plasma is relevant for multiple applications, and we believe the pilot plant will be key to pursuing them. However, our primary objective is to enable the farmer to produce his own fertilizer. But as we see it after five years of R&D, that is just the start of our adventure.
Building something that never existed, other than as a vision, is a challenge. Building the housing for it in parallel is another. An anxious team waited as Hoffman Transport arrived with the precious goods from Austria last August. The load was two meters high, three meters long and with a total weight of 700 kilos. Would the doors in the test centre be tall and wide enough? Would we be able to maneuver the new inhabitant into its glass cage at center stage? We were, – another critical calculation exercise proved to deliver as planned. Our local supporters and helpers applied their practical intuition and experiences and brought the plant to its final destination.
With the test centre completed and the pilot plant in place, we are ready for the start of a new era for N2 Applied. Our vision is manifested by the most tangible pieces of a highly promising puzzle. We look forward to welcoming curious individuals and future oriented partners and companies worldwide.
